LIMIT OF $5,000 GIVEN BY MANY IN CAMPAIGNS

Democrats List Expenditures of $603,742; G.O.P. Report Awaited

Washington, Oct. 26 (UP) –

Political organizations and candidates’ reports to the House and Senate today showed many contributions of $5,000, the limit permitted by the Hatch “Clean Politics” Act.

Today was the deadline for filing or mailing reports on contributions received up to October 20. Reports of various organizations included, for the period September 1 to October 20 unless otherwise specified:

Democratic National Committee:
Contributions, $632,746, including $70,000 of loans; expenditures, $603,742.

G.O.P. Report Awaited

The Republican National Committee report was still awaited.

Associated Willkie Clubs of America:
Contributions, $632,855; expenditures, $472,626.

Democrats for Willkie:
Contributions, $148,720; expenditures, $117,701.

Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee:
Contributions, $77,525; expenditures, $66,515.

Willkie Magazine Fund, headed by John Orr Young (NY):
Contributions, $25,487; expenditures, $21,720.

New York State Independent Voters Committee for Roosevelt and Wallace:
Contributions, $1,345; expenditures, $500.

Independent No-Third-Term Committee, Chicago:

Shipstead Receives 500

Senator Henrik Shipstead (R-MN) reported he received $50 and spent $77.

John McSweeney (OH) received $1,115 and spent $835.

Senator Dennis Chavez (D-NM) spent $200 and received no contributions.

Paul L. Cornell, Republican running against Senator Francis T. Maloney (D-CT), received $3,325 and spent $1,474.

George I. Shannon (Amarillo, TX), running on the Republican ticket against Senator Tom Connally, spent nothing and received nothing.

Milward L. Simpson (Cody, WY), Republican opponent of Senator Joseph C. O’Mahoney, received $95 and spent $69.

Many returns have not yet been received but Senate clerks explained that reports in the mail before midnight will be within the scope of the Corrupt Practices Act.
