Dutch Indies Army calls youths of 17

Batavia, NEI, Dec. 27 (INS) –
The Netherlands East Indies government announced today that all men born in 1924 will register next month for military service. This move will bring many youths only a few weeks past 17 years of age into the NEI armed forces.

The government also said all men not in Army, Navy or Air Force uniforms must carry papers proving their right to wear civilian clothes.

This would become a major factor in Indonesia’s war for independence.
