Did Alaska play any significant role in World War Two

I’ve heard that Canadian and U.S forces fired on each other thinking they were the Japanese in Alaska but I don’t know if this is true, and if it is why there was fighting in Alaska.

Good question, spoiler it might be that Dutch Harbor will be hit at some point on time. Fantastic place to visit, expecially if you travel via the Alaska State Ferry which runs a Kodiak-Unalaska trail. Also there is the Alaska highway which was build in WW2.

Not to forget th 2 Islands that were invaded by Japan and retaken by the USA!

Here is another one, I think valor tours has tours of the island if you like to be somewhere remote and going wirelessless ;-). I’ve only been as far as Unalaska which has a WW2 museum as well as fantastic King Crab.

I believe these battles took place in the Aleutian Islands and the Japanese had abandoned the islands without the knowledge of the Americans and Canadians so they ended up fired on each other
