Spartacus rambles on a bit about the state of the world and the fluctuations in international wheat and sugar trade… No he doesn’t! He just brings good tidings of development. The website is done and about to go live. Aaaaand… On popular demand: we will do a series about the interwar period called Between-2-Wars! Join…
Thanks for doing Betwwen-2-Wars, I think it is good idea.
I would like to suggest a few things, as follows:
-
Spanish Civil War, small amount regarding the Proving grounds (regarding for tanks/planes) for Germans and to a degree for U.S.S.R.
Few words or line, or even two lines maybe needed.
I think the conclusions that the Germans made from this war had big impact on the WW2, Tanks, planes, tactics, etc. The U.S.S.R. experience in that war changed their view on tanks and hurt them in some ways, but in other ways in helped them to. However, some or most of the Blitzkrieg ideas were tried out in this Civil War and Tanks lessons learnt in that war could be saved and used for the WW2 Project, like Tactics part of WW2 project. -
Czechoslovakia in 1938, I think this needs to be covered to. And as many historians have suggested that the tanks (and tank factories) they capture in Czechoslovakia help the Germans to implement the Blitzkrieg, and some say could not have done Blitzkrieg without Czechoslovakia tanks, etc.
-
Russo-Finnish War 39-40, should be covered to and if you do, please, do a line or two re tanks warfare that occurred there to. As this war also changed views for some subjects and for U.S.S.R. led them down the path, in part, to the KV-2 tank(s), as example.
-
Poland and Russia war of 1919-1921.
-
the Romania and Hungary war to, from what I understand.
-
Also, the Sino - Soviet War Of 1929, which there a book about this (seem only one on that subject that is in English, if I understand it correctly).
-
Colombia - Peru War 1932-1933, you could touch on this briefly I would suggest.
Border Clashes:
I think you could in a maybe in one video use line or two just to mention border clashes in general that happening between some countries and maybe just name few incidents just to highlight even more how unstable the situation was between the two World Wars. I listed just bunch below and some ideas, but use the ones you and maybe others think are most important.
- Border clashes, U.S.S.R. Vs. Japan (and Manchukuo), 1932-1936 up 275 minor border incidents. And as I understand it, bigger clashes 1937 (?), 1938, and most famous one in 1939, called Khalkhin Gol by U.S.S.R. or Nomonhan by Japan. Also, I have read the Mongolian troops were involved on the Soviet side as well.
Now one could save the above last border clash in 39 for the WW2 Project when you do Marshal Zhukov bio, as it shows a lot about the man and his way of waging war.
I look forward to your coverage of the Between-2-Wars that you produced on the above and any other topic that are going to input into this part of project.
These are great suggestions @mars510, we just finished shooting end of 1918, the four episodes for 1919 and 2 out of 4 episodes for 1920. We do cover the Polish Soviet war in some detail (it’s in the episode about the general wars in Eastern Europe and the Russian Civil War in 1919, and most of an entire episode for 1920 - as it’s essential for what happened later).
When I start writing again in the next few days I’ll be sharing my bullet point notes for the episodes here in the forum. We’ll also be starting some discussions about how to tweak the general direction in the Officer’s Lounge. Your input is greatly appreciated.
