Brazil's Rubber Soldiers

I would be glad to learn more about the production of rubber in Brazil in the lead up and during the War, especially the Rubber Soldier campaign.

Have a look at

… the “Rubber Soldiers” were Brazilians who harvested rubber during the war; the US bought the product and also subsidized the movement of workers to where the rubber trees were, housing, and so on. This work, which was remarkably inefficient considering the number of workers moved into the Amazon to tap rubber trees - largely because of Brazilian government foolishness - became much less critical to the War effort once the US’s crash program for synthetic rubber bore fruit (or rather, rubber) in 1943.

The “Rubber Soldiers” were given a pension by the Brazilian Government, but only starting in 1988.
