Very good question. Well Italians were on other battlefields too with the ARMIR in the USSR going into a first class disaster. Some of the Italian POWs didn’t see home until 1954.

The Italian Expeditionary Force was sent to Russia and actually did pretty good against the USSR in a few battles. After the (Spoiler Alert) Italian surrender, there was an Italian colony in China that fought against the Japanese, and other Italian subs chose to either side with the Italian Monarchy in the south or Mussolini and his new Fascist government in the north.
