STRIKERS MAY LOSE DRAFT DEFERMENT

Los Angeles, June 9 (UP) –
Almost 100 striking workers at the North American Aviation plant were in danger today of losing their Army deferment status. Three local draft boards said they would put the men in Class 1-A, subject to immediate induction.

Selective Service Board 221 sent physical examination notices out, declaring that the men had lost their 2-A deferment classification because they were no longer aircraft workers and were not “necessary” to national defense.

Boards 222 and 226, following special meetings last night, decided that workers who did not return to their jobs immediately would be put in the 1-A class. Other local boards surrounding the North American plant and in nearby Los Angeles were expected to make similar moves.
