ARMY LIKELY TO TAKE 80,000 COLLEGE YOUTHS
Austin, TX (UP) –
American colleges and universities will lose 11% of their male students to the national defense program this summer, a poll by Student Opinion Surveys conducted from Austin indicates.
A cross-section of American colleges and universities revealed that approximately 80,000 youths expect to be drafted or will volunteer for service during the summer. The big rush to the Army and Navy from campuses will begin about June 1.
College students have been deferred from conscription under the Selective Service Act until the end of the present school term.
