Hi Indie and Time Ghost Crew.
Everyday as I go to work I pass by Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty statue, and a cast iron plaque with the words: “God has no Country” etched into it. Only recently my Father pointed out to me that he was an important figure to make sure that no harm would be done to civilians and POW’s, as the allies slowly made there way up the Italian peninsula. Not only that he risked his life to make sure that allied soldiers, airmen amongst others, were kept safe in the convents, flats farms and many hideouts, he also helped them secure with fake ID’s. He showed that he was a true ‘man of God’ as he indiscriminately demanded that the German POW’s would be treated properly as well. I know there are plenty others that did the same, I know I’m being biased as an Irishman, but considering around now in the week by week episodes, the Allies slowly make gains in Italy that he should a biography special. If not I do think he deserves a special mention.
Kind Regards,
Sean
