MEDICAL ASSOCIATION FINED $2,500 BY U.S.
Washington, May 29 (UP) –
U.S. Justice James M. Proctor today fined the American Medical Association $2,500 on its recent conviction of violating the antitrust laws. The Medical Society of the District of Columbia was fined $1,500.
AMA counsel said they would appeal the conviction.
The indictments charged that the AMA and its affiliate illegally attempted to hinder the activities of a Washington cooperative health organization by coercion of doctors and local hospitals. 19 physicians who were named in the indictment were acquitted.
