South Pacific.
Information has just been received that a U.S. destroyer which participated in the night action of November 14-15 during the Battle of Guadalcanal (November 13-15) was damaged by an enemy torpedo and sank the following evening as a result of this damage, while en route to a U.S. base.
The officers and crew of the destroyer were rescued by another destroyer. No loss of life has been reported.
The loss of this destroyer was not included in previous reports of U.S. vessels lost during the Battle of Guadalcanal.

London, England (UP) – (Nov. 21)
Lt. Roy William Evans of San Bernardino, California, who saw Lt. Frank Smolensky of New York shoot down a Fw 190 Thursday, took his turn today and shot down a Hs 126, German two-seat reconnaissance plane.
He and Lt. Smolensky were on an offensive patrol today when they spotted the Henschel. Lt. Evans signaled “this one’s mine” and in a quick, flashing action destroyed the German craft.
