About Soviet Railway System

How did the Germans manage to use the Soviet Railway System? (The Germans used 1.435 mm gauge, while the Soviets 1.524 mm gauge)

I don’t have links, cause I wasn’t told links. This is what I’ve gleamed:

They used the rail system very poorly. They tried to reset some of the track but mostly ended up manually transferring supplies supplies at depots at the 1938 Soviet Border.

Also their repairs of the rail system were so shoddy that they could only use 40% of the weight capacity of the cars without risking derailment.

I don’t know if this is true, nor how extensively true this is, it might be true and only apply to certain sectors. Research is hard when you’re not trained on how to do historical research, which despite being a history major, I wasn’t. Also libraries are closed.
