A Tale of of Hacker and Hero and Civil Servant (Today I Found Out)

I’ve Posted About the Need for Feel Good Stories of Resistance, and well, today I have one, albeit with a very bittersweet ending. I present to you one of the first ethnical hackers: René Carmille, courtesy of Today I Found Out:

It’s impossible to know how many French Jews he saved but he may have saved up to half of all native French Jews and maybe a similar amount of Jewish refugees taken in before the 1940 invasion, given the death totals in Belgium and the Netherlands.

This guy was a badass bureaucrat par excellence and came up with the modern French Social Security system before the war too, which is impressive in its own right.
