30,000 BODIES OF ITALIANS REPORTED WASHED ASHORE

Algiers, May 14 (UP) –
Bodies of many Italian soldiers have been washed ashore on the east coast of Tunisia following British blows against Axis lines of communication to North Africa, it was reported today.

No official figures were available but one estimate was that 30,000 Italians had been washed ashore, where they have been buried. The victims apparently drowned after the sinking of Italian transports, one of which remained visible offshore, its stern above the water level.

A few British bodies likewise were reported to have been washed ashore. Many barrels of oil have also been found.
