Spartacus, this question has been a deep one. Why did the Allies, especially America, did not do anything to combat racism in their armies?

Don’t bring modern politics here, save that for FDR

Republicans didn’t do much better. But I rather not go into that because parties in general have bad and good.

But like I was asking too, why didn’t FDR call out his allies racism?

Wouldn’t want to get into heated arguments with your allies, eh? There was a general fear of the potential for the Nazis exploiting important disagreements between the Allies (at least the Western Allies). There’s an article I transcribed that doesn’t talk about race, but is about South American trade, wherein the author pointed this fear out.

I mean, I would’ve doubt Hitler would’ve paid attention to disagreement in '42 with how the war is going

Giving, ahem, Africa, Russia and the Atlantic war

I mean, you judge. This was regarding South American trade:

Fear is a powerful motivator.

Ngl, America was right for saying that about Singapore. Fortress of the East and couldn’t hold it:rofl::sweat_smile:

Also, on the “hypocrisy”, there’s a difference between segregation and attempted extermination.

FDR, the socialist who risked it all to progress America, only to have the evils of racism and corruption trap him

God I need to word better when asking questions

Another reason is that, in the context of fighting a world war, there were other issues that were significantly more concerning.

I mean obviously Nazis were committing horrible war crimes. I was always taught to call out ppl who is doing wrong

Even then, you have to understand the circumstances surrounding the wrongful acts. Understanding that can prevent these acts from happening again.

We can agree we don’t need a repeat of WW2

Got any evidence of that?

Voter suppression laws
Jim Crow
Tulsa

Got a whole list of stuff.

And that is evidence of blacks not being listened to in WWII?

I mean Jim Crow laws during WW2 was at its height, and I doubt ppl, especially the KKK would’ve wanted black people to riot. (No spoilers here ppl)

Not really. That would be the period from the 1890s to the 1920s.

The KKK was a shadow of its former self by 1942.
