The fantastic Catalina, these long range slow recon plane crews are much less known than the Spitfires an Mustangs but their contribution was essential. Extremely long flights, scanning the sees all the time and underarmed against enemy planes and almost always alone on the mission.
I flew really close to one last year in a Supercub at Duxford. A very graceful plane.
